With a notable career spanning more than three decades, Kris Walker has established himself as a versatile creative professional working across photography, design, and illustration. His fine art practice is rooted in experimentation, using lens-based image making to explore new visual possibilities through both traditional and unconventional techniques. Rather than focusing solely on subject matter, Walker approaches the world through the language of design, seeing line, shape, color, texture, and space as the building blocks of an image. This perspective allows him to move fluidly between abstraction and representation while continually expanding the creative possibilities of the photographic medium.

Alongside his fine art practice, Walker has built an extensive commercial career creating photography for architecture, marketing, advertising, and editorial clients. The dialogue between commercial precision and artistic exploration informs both sides of his work, bringing technical discipline to experimentation while allowing curiosity to remain at the center of his creative process. He believes each new body of work should challenge both the artist and the viewer by offering fresh ideas, unexpected visual experiences, and new ways of seeing familiar subjects.

Walker also shares his passion for image making as an instructor in the Photography Department at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, where he teaches courses in photography and digital imaging. Across both his studio practice and teaching, Walker remains committed to expanding the possibilities of lens-based image making through experimentation, design thinking, and continual curiosity.
